Why What You Put on Your Skin Matters (and Why Roots Within Exists)
I’m back. Slowly. Softly. Intentionally.
The last couple of months have been full-on hermit mode and honestly, my mind, body, and soul needed it. Winter has a way of asking us to rest whether we want to or not. Motivation feels like it should be sold at the store… and let’s be real, it would be sold out everywhere.

Why Roots Within Was Born
For over 10 years, I’ve been searching for skincare and makeup that is:
Truly non-toxic
Actually effective
And aligned with whole-body wellness
And let me tell you… that hunt has not been easy.
Here’s the reality most people don’t realize:
👉 The average woman uses 12 personal care products a day, exposing herself to over 160 chemical ingredients daily.
👉 Studies estimate 30–60% of what we apply to our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, often within minutes of application. I have seen some studies that have that estimate closer to 90%, which is crazy.
👉 Many common skincare and makeup products contain ingredients linked to hormone disruption, fertility issues, inflammation, and long-term health concerns.
Your skin isn’t a barrier, it’s a delivery system.
The Hidden Problem With “Clean” Beauty
The beauty industry is wildly under regulated. So while companies market their products as “clean” or “nontoxic”, there is no one checking that. Being that I am in the food industry, selling a health food product, I know first hand this unfortunately isn’t regulated. It is honestly a bummer because it’s so easy for bad people to get away with tricking people who are trying to live healthier. It is your responsibility to look at the company, but more importantly READ the ingredients. Many companies claim to be clean, but are unfortunately greenwashed. Finding a company you can align with and trust is key. I have seen many companies I supported, turn around and sell out to bigger companies and then quietly change the ingredients. That should tell you one thing, big companies are keeping their eye on clean products, because it’s what people truly want. Nontoxic living is on the rise. In the U.S., over 1,300 cosmetic ingredients are restricted or banned in Europe, yet still legal in the US. Guess where Oliveda products come from? You guessed it, EUROPE! So you can count on cleaner products.
Some of the most common ingredients to watch out for include:
Fragrance/Parfum (often hides dozens of undisclosed chemicals)
Parabens (linked to hormone disruption)
Phthalates (associated with fertility and developmental issues)
Formaldehyde releasers
PEGs & petroleum-based ingredients
Chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone
And makeup? Oof. Non-toxic makeup that actually works has been one of the hardest things to find.
